Raising awareness of the needs of individuals with disabilities

SIILC provides a variety of outreach activities designed to educate the members of the community including businesses and promote awareness with regard to the needs and abilities of individuals with disabilities. We work to address the school systems’ educational needs for students with disabilities, conduct technical assistance training such as the implementation of the ADA Title I, provide access to employment placement, vocational services, and communications, and educate facilities, consumers, and other organizations regarding the rights of individuals with disabilities.

SIILC provides consumers with access to personal assistive services. Such services include independent living skills training to consumers through peer support, support groups, and referrals to home care for an attendant, homemaker, and respite care services. Independent living skills training provides consumers with the tools necessary to maintain a safe, clean, and healthy home environment while assisting consumers with optimizing their levels of independence.

SIILC provides consumers with the opportunity and skills necessary to access and obtain essential assistive technology to effectively and independently advocate, communicate, defer and transition from institutional care, access appropriate health care, counseling, or family services, increase mobility, integrate into communities, overcome barriers, and maximize independence.

SIILC also collaborates with other organizations to provide consumers with Orientation and Mobility Training opportunities to assist them with increasing their independence and active inclusion within the community including recreational activities.
